ENGLISH FOR KIDS

ARTICLES
The words 'A', 'An' and 'The' are called articles. The articles are used before nouns. 'A' and 'An' are indefinite articles. 'The' is a definite article.

'A'
'A' is used before the nouns that begin with a consonant or consonant sound.
  1. A boy
  2. A bridge
  3. A car
  4. A rocket
  5. A University
'An'
'An' is used before the nouns that begin with a vowel or vowel sound.
  1. An apple
  2. An instrument
  3. An idea
  4. An orange
  5. An Umbrella
'The'
You use 'the' before a noun when you know that the listener knows or can work out what particular person/thing you are talking about.
  1. The apple you ate was rotten.
  2. What are your plans for the future?
  3. The North Pole
  4. Did you lock the car?
